Torn Screen
a note on gaze
at No Sympathy For The Devil
at No Sympathy For The Devil

Looking at the camera, creating a schisme on the screen.
There is a very specific moment at No Sympathy For The Devil in the middle
of the body of the film, during a very extended, nude and wild erotic scene between
the two protagists Lena Kitsopoulou (Euridice) and Costas Kazanas (Orfeus).
Suddenly, without any obvious reason and in the most provocativ point of their love
scene, being completely nude both of them, they stare at us in a steady way, for
some seconds. This is the first and only time, that is happening in the film.
Suddenly, the reality of the film flows out of the fictional and enrounds us.
We are forced to move from the comfortable innocence of the spectator
to the complicit side of the viewer, reminding the relationship between
a filmic spectator and his object.
